How to screenshot on mac

To take a screenshot on a Mac, you can use a variety of keyboard shortcuts or built-in tools. Here are the most common methods:

  1. Capture the Entire Screen:

    • Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 3 simultaneously.
    • Your Mac will capture the entire screen, and the screenshot will be saved to your desktop by default.
  2. Capture a Selected Portion of the Screen:

    • Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4 simultaneously.
    • Your cursor will change to a crosshair cursor.
    • Click and drag to select the portion of the screen you want to capture.
    • Release the mouse button to take the screenshot. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
  3. Capture a Specific Window or Application:

    • Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4, followed by the Spacebar.
    • Your cursor will change to a camera icon.
    • Move the camera icon over the window or application you want to capture.
    • Click on the window or application to take the screenshot. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
  4. Capture the Touch Bar (if applicable):

    • Press Shift + Command (⌘) + 6 simultaneously.
  5. Take a Screenshot and Copy to Clipboard:

    • Add Control to the keyboard shortcuts mentioned above. For example:
      • To capture the entire screen and copy to clipboard: Shift + Command (⌘) + Control + 3.
      • To capture a selected portion of the screen and copy to clipboard: Shift + Command (⌘) + Control + 4.

After taking a screenshot, you'll typically hear a camera shutter sound, and the screenshot will be saved to your desktop by default. You can also find it in the "Screenshots" folder if you're using macOS Mojave or later.

Additionally, if you're using macOS Mojave or later, you can take advantage of the Screenshot app, which offers more options and features for capturing and editing screenshots. To open the Screenshot app, press Shift + Command (⌘) + 5.

Keep in mind that these instructions are based on macOS as of my last knowledge update in September 2021. If you're using a newer version of macOS, the process may still be similar, but there could be some changes or additional features introduced since then.
